HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra audience will hear some old favorites as well as some brand-new music at the next Classical Series concert this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall.
For the “Something Old, Something New,” concert, HSO conductor and music director Gregory Vajda picked Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Symphony No. 36, K. 425, C major,” known as the “Linz,” to lead off the concert. The second half of the concert will be devoted to Johannes Brahms’ “Piano Concerto No. 1, op. 15, D minor” with soloist William Wolfram on piano.

The performance of Rutty’s work is part of an ongoing cooperation between the HSO and the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s New Music Festival, which takes place Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the UAH Roberts Recital Hall. Rutty’s work is one of the almost 50 compositions selected for the festival and the one the HSO chose to present at Saturday’s concert, Vajda said.
