Ancient Egyptians 'styled their hair with fat-based gel'

London, August 27 (ANI): Ancient Egyptians styled their hair with a fat-based "gel" to make sure that they look good both in life and death, a new study has found.

Natalie McCreesh of the University of Manchester, UK and her colleagues examined hair samples from 15 mummies from the Kellis 1 cemetery in Dakhla oasis, Egypt, and a further three samples from mummies housed in museum collections in the US, the UK and Ireland.

The mummies were of both sexes, between 4 and 58 years old when they died, and dated from 3500 years to 2300 years ago.

When examined with light and electron microscopes, it became clear that the hairs of most mummies were coated with a fatty substance.

"Once we started looking [for these], we found interesting hairstyles.The hair was styled and perfectly curled," New Scientist quoted McCreesh as saying.

I purchased a Farouk Chi Flat iron which quit working in less than 7 months. The number on the Farouk website for customer service does not go beyond a recorded message – I held on the phone for over an hour before being disconnected, then tried it again and the same thing happened. When I searched for Farouk Chi Warranty online, I found several similar comments posted. I also found out that Farouk does not honor the warranty for any item purchased over the internet. This is not stated up front by Amazon – and in my mind, Amazon should make this known to customers before listing the item online!

The product is much smaller than it appears in the photograph. It holds only a very small portion of my hair at a time. The battery barely works. I purchased it for the battery component and it loses power almost instantly. There is no difference between the different heat settings. It does not work with low voltage such as the hotel razor outlet–mine is 110v and the iron doesn’t work when plugged in. For the amount of money you will pay for this, you should get a LOT more. I was hugely disappointed.
