MAN DIES IN SHOOTOUT
Authorities this morning identified the 41-year-old man shot and killed by officers Thursday afternoon as Kenneth Ray Wilson.
Redding police said Wilson fired a gun at them they as they chased him across South Market Street.
It was the second fatal police shooting on South Market Street this year.
Shasta County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Kent said Redding police and California Highway Patrol officers were involved in the shooting. Kent could not say whether a Redding police officer or CHP officer fired the fatal shot.
"That is unknown at this time. There were four officers total," Kent said this morning.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
"That is when information as to what bullet caused the fatal shot and how many bullets" will come in, Kent said. "Some witnesses on the scene mentioned figures such as 40 (bullets), but I can't confirm that at this point."
Redding police Lt. Butch Brown said police for two days had been looking for Wilson, who had a violent felony history and warrants out for his arrest. Two of the 10 outstanding warrants were for armed robbery and attempted armed robbery, Kent said.
