En las circunstancias apuntadas, Maldonado iba acompaÃ±ado de su esposa y tres hijos menores conduciendo el vehÃculo Ford Fairlane de su propiedad, por calle Beschedt en direcciÃ³n Sur a Norte. Al iniciar la pronunciada bajada existente en el sector y procurar aplicar los frenos para reducir la velocidad , debido al mal mantenimiento del sistema de vacÃo del servo freno, no logrÃ³ su propÃ³sito, adquiriendo en cambio, el automÃ³vil cada vez mayor velocidad, hasta perder el dominio del mismo. Luego de sobrepasar la rotonda existente en la intersecciÃ³n de las calles Beschedt y Almirante Brown de esta ciudad, impactÃ³ violentamente a un vehÃculo Ford Escort, que circulaba por calle Beschedt en sentido cardinal Norte a Sur, en el cual la vÃctima fatal iba de acompaÃ±ante.
