Attorney questions prostitute charges against Peoria city councilman
The attorney for a city councilman accused of patronizing a prostitute ripped the allegations Friday.
"They asked a prostitute if she had sex with him and she said yes, and they don't have much else," said Dan O'Day, attorney for 5th District Councilman Dan Irving.
Irving, elected to the Peoria City Council in 2009, was charged Thursday with felony counts of patronizing a prostitute. He is free after posting $750 bail at the Peoria County Jail.
A Peoria County Sheriff's Department report states detectives were tipped to the incidents by someone who gave them bank records, phone records and an escort service website Irving allegedly visited.
It says Irving met a woman, whose alias is Jazzie Summers, at the Grand Hotel and the Jamison Hotel, both located on Brandywine Drive, sometime between March 1 and June 30.
O'Day noted his client went to police and denied the allegations. The charges were vague and didn't state much, he said.
