Former Reading midfielder James Rowe signs for Forest Green after trial
FOREST Green boss Dave Hockaday has agreed a two-year deal with talented midfielder James Rowe, writes Ashley Loveridge.
The former Reading star, 19, has been Forest Green’s stand out performer since joining up with the squad on trial.
He helped himself to a fine individual strike against Hereford on Saturday and followed that with a goal at Cirencester Town on Tuesday night.
The Wantage-based teenager is delighted to finally put pen-to-paper after waiting to be officially released from Brian McDermott’s Reading on July 31.
Rowe said: “I am delighted and excited at joining Rovers and look forward to a bright future at the club.”
He started his career under Dave Hockaday at Southampton Academy before switching to Championship side Reading.
“I have known James since he was a young lad at Southampton and I have kept tabs on him ever since,” said Hockaday.
“He called me off his own back to come and train with us and has fitted in extremely well and he fully deserves this deal.”
