Beltran To Be Punter, Holder
Just got back from Navy Media Day and there is actually breaking news to report. Head coach Ken Niumatalolo told the assembled media that plebe Pablo Beltran will likely serve as Navy's punter and holder for placekicks.
Beltran was a highly-touted recruit out of Atascocita High in Humble, Texas, which is located outside of Houston. Navy played in the Texas Bowl in Houston the year that assistant Danny O'Rourke landed Beltran and I remember O'Rourke being quite pleased with the pickup because Beltran had earned numerous accolades as a punter and a kicker during his high school career.
Last week, Niumatalolo revealed that projected starting punter Justin Haan had taken a leave of absence from the Naval Academy in order to do church missionary work in Africa. Niumatalolo was a bit perturbed about the timing of Haan's announcement as it suddenly created an unexpected hole.
Plebe summer is famous for sapping the leg strength of Navy football recruits, but Beltran apparently came through it in decent shape. "I've been very impressed with (Beltran). He has some pop in his leg," Niumatalolo said. "I'm eager to see how well he kicks once he gets some of his leg strength back."
A woman from Chicago who is a movie extra in the upcoming film Transformers 3 is under medical coma after a stunt gone wrong happened during the filming of the said movie last Wednesday.

Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo dedicates three assistants to recruiting the state. Slot back coach Danny O'Rourke concentrates on Houston, wide receiver coach Mick Yokitis recruits the Dallas area and outside linebackers coach Tony Grantham handles San
