Malaysia banking on Japanese to ease path for our shuttlers
“We hope that they can cause some upsets in the early rounds – especially against China – to pave an easier path for others,” said Seu Bock.
Sasaki and Yamada are in the same quarter as second seed Lin Dan of China.
Sasaki beat a well below-par Lin Dan in the second round of the Indonesian Open in June. It was Sasaki’s first win over Lin Dan in five years.
Yamada may meet China’s fourth ranked player Du Pengyu in the second round.
Tago, the 2010 All-England runner-up, may face defending champion Chen Jin in the third round. Tago beat Chen Jin in the quarter-finals of the All-England last year.
Tago and Chen Jin are both in the top half with top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, Park Sung-hwan of South Korea, Chen Long of China, Germany’s Marc Zwiebler and Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat.
Said Seu Bock: “China are quite strong, with four players to go after the title. We, however, depend so much on Chong Wei. So, it will be good if we have other players to weaken China’s challenge by upsetting one or two of their players.”
