Dorotha Riley Myers, 93, of Carthage, Ill., died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.
Born Sept. 12, 1917, at home near Colusa, Ill., she was the daughter of Victor and Inez Browning Riley. On June 7, 1939, she married Raymond Earl Myers.
Mrs. Myers taught in one-room country schools, at Colusa High School, and in Hersman, Ill., Ferris, Ill., and Carthage, Ill. She attended Bross School, a one-room country school, and was class valedictorian at Colusa High School. She earned a teacher's certification at Western Illinois Teachers College. She completed her bachelor's degree at Western Illinois University toward the end of her teaching career in the early 1980s. She was named Hancock County Teacher of the Year for her yearlong bicentennial...
