Western Illinois Women's Soccer Continues to Improve
Western Illinois' campus is beginning to buzz with the start of classes just two weeks away. Athletes have been arriving to campus over the past week and the fall season is just over the horizon. Women's soccer begins their march towards another conference championship appearance on Friday as they open practice. The Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer program won 16 matches in 2007, a program record. In each of the last three seasons, Western Illinois has improved or matched the win total on the year prior.
Fifth-year head coach Tony Guinn's squad will look to continue the trend and improve on a 10-win season in 2010 that saw several individual and team accolades. The Leathernecks look to continue their dominance on John MacKenzie Alumni Field. In 2010, Western Illinois was 5-0-3 at home and extended its home-unbeaten streak to ten matches dating back to 2009.
The Purple & Gold will have to replace some of the most decorated athletes in program history. Departed
