Party-hoppers begin search for suitable takers for UP elections
LUCKNOW: As Uttar Pradesh gears up for next year's assembly elections, politicians have begun the exercise of 'aayaram-gayaram' (party-hopping) to suit their interests. The exercise though is common before every election.
Loyalties change overnight and friends turn into foes (and vice-versa). Some politicians change sides after suddenly realising that the atmosphere in their party is 'suffocating' while others do so in the name of serving people better. While people's condition largely remains uncharged, politicians reap benefits in the name of public service.
The party hopping for 2012 assembly polls started on May 10 last when the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA from Masauli in Barabanki district, Farid Mefhooz Kidwai, joined the Samajwadi Party . It has gradually picked up pace in July. On Monday, BSP MLA from Jalalpur in Ambedkarnagar, Sher Bahadur Singh, joined the SP. Singh, a known party hopper, has been in most of the parties during his political career. He was first elected on the Congress ticket in 1980. In 1985, he won as an Independent. In 1996, he was elected on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket and in 2007 on the Bahujan Samaj Party ticket. Now, he has joined SP because BSP denied him ticket for 2012 elections.
