York barbers donate their services for back to school
With district Supt. Deborah Wortham. She sold him on the idea that if kids look better, they'll feel better and they'll perform better.Muldrow thought about what he could do to contribute to that.
"I'm a barber," he said, adding he's been working as such for about 10 years. "Nothing makes a kid feel better like a nice, smooth haircut."
So he gathered barbers young and old, new and retired, and they took over the lobby at the high school pool Monday. When they opened the doors that morning, 50 to 75 kids were already waiting, he said.
"It's just been an amazing event," he said.
Mary Price made a few trips to the school, bringing her four nephews.
"It's good for the community," she said. Everyone can't afford haircuts, especially if a family has three or four kids. The free cuts could keep some kids from being bullied, she said.
The boys were excited after their haircuts, running their hands over their hair, she said.
